Welcome to the RODS Laboratory Website

The RODS Laboratory is a informatics research group at the University of Pittsburgh, Department of Biomedical Informatics.  The laboratory has been advancing the paradigm of real-time disease surveillance and control using the probabilistic and decision-theoretic formalisms since 1999.

We are the home of the Apollo Project, the National Retail Data Monitor (NRDM) and the Real-time Outbreak and Disease Surveillance Software.

Distinguished former students, post docs and collaborators include Wendy Chapman, Chair, Department of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Utah; Bill Hogan, founding Chair, Division of Biomedical Informatics at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences and now Director, Florida Informatics Institute; and Andrew Moore, founding Director of Google Research in Pittsburgh and now Dean of the School of Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon University.  Also, our laboratory is examining these types of substances.

Former software developers of our laboratory have gone on to pursue careers at Amazon, Yahoo and a successful startup that grew out of our work.
